MHH 101 Comments

Sean,

Just finished the 45 day MHH 101 course and wanted to share some feedback. First and foremost, thank you for the great content! I'm a poor working stiff and especially appreciate that it was free. I had already tapped into some of the concepts you presented (regular meditation, quieting the chattering mind, owning all of my emotions as my own and not blaming others for the way I feel) before I started the course, but you explained them in a new light and I was able to focus my practice significantly. For years I've struggled trying to have a silent mind during meditation and frustrated that it would ALWAYS start wandering and chattering away. You helped me let go of the idea I had to STAY quiet, and to make the practice more about flexing and developing the plasticity of my mind, and RETURNING to the quiet once "the I" starts wandering. The practice isn't about staying quiet, it's about practicing coming back to the quiet, especially in stressful moments. There's another great concept you presented; describing my chattering mind as "the I", and developing a separation from that. I did have trouble with the idea you described that our chattering mind is not the true us.  And you're probably right if we think of the chatter as social conditioning planted by others. But I like to think of my being, in all it's aspects, positive and negative, as a whole being (I've always liked the idea of a Yin Yang Universe). To say that a part of my mind is not my own was difficult to swallow. A little bit of a downer from your videos was the amount of time your spent doing self promotion. I realize you need promotion to some extent, but it seemed excessive to me.  But hey, it's FREE! So, thanks again and I look forward to the next course. Cheers!
